BREAKING: Child (1) killed in freak accident
Hazmat operator Deon Broekman and Netcare 911 paramedic, Andre Denysschen were immediately dispatched to the scene, but nothing could be done for the little boy, Devante Deergaardt.

LYDENBURG – In an absolute freak and heart-breaking accident, a grandmother ran over her one-year-old grandchild with her car in Circle View Estate in the Sterkspruit complex.
According to Capt. Alfred Moela, communications officer of Lydenburg SAPS, the incident occurred just before 14:00 today.
Hazmat operator Deon Broekman and Netcare 911 paramedic, Andre Denysschen were immediately dispatched to the scene, but nothing could be done for the little boy, Devante Deergaardt.
Moela said that it is alleged that the grandmother, Wenda Willemse (54), was pulling into the yard when little boy supposedly ran towards the vehicle to greet her.
“We are certain that Willemse did not see the child running towards the car. The child was run over and died on impact. Paramedics declared him dead on the scene. His body was taken to Lydenburg mortuary by Mpumalanga forensic officers. The investigation is pending. Willemse will be charged with culpable homicide.”
Moela said that the family is devastated by the unforeseen accident.
He said that police are urging residents to be extremely careful when it comes to pulling into driveways especially where there are small children. “Please check your surroundings, especially if you have young children who are not aware of the dangers of a moving vehicle.”
The newspaper would like to extend their sincere condolences to the family of Devante.
