Town supports CANSA Pink Walk

The annual CANSA Pink Walk took place this Saturday.

Everyone was in high spirits and the cool weather favoured the occasion.

They gathered at Victorian Tea Garden and took to the streets of Barberton wearing pink and carrying posters to show their solidarity and to create awareness of the seriousness of breast cancer and how early detection can save one’s life.

Local traffic officers took care of participants, and medical services were present all the way.

According to Christelle Strauss from the local CANSA, this year’s event was a roaring success. She also thanked everyone for their contribution.

“I would like to specially appreciate the excellent work done by the handful of volunteers who helped to make this event such a huge success.”

CANSA is a non-profit organisation which helps fight cancer and offers support to those suffering from this illness.
Among those who took the walk was 71-year-old Rita Esterhuysen.

“I didn’t do any preparations prior to the walk. But I managed to do it without any problems.
And I really did enjoy it,” she said.
