Local radio DJ needs community’s vote to win

Barberton Community Radio station's (BCR) afternoon drive show presenter, Charles Mkhabela, popularly known as DJ Dops, has been nominated for a Beauty Fashion Music (BFM) Award.

The BFM awards ceremony will be held in Mbombela on November 25.

DJ Dops will compete against Classic Clasta from Nkomazi FM.

Initially, the BFM best radio personality category had three competitors, but Ligwalagwala FM’s Dumisani “DJ Shabbisto” Mavuso withdrew, citing it was unfair for him to compete with radio presenters from community radio stations.

According to DJ Dops, this is a blessing in disguise for him.

He commended Mavuso for his honest and brave withdrawal, which will definitely put him (DJ Dops) in a good position to win in the category.

It is not be the first time DJ Dops has competed against DJ Shabbisto.

In May, the two locked horns when they were both nominated in the National Liberty Awards (NLA), in which DJ Shabbisto came out tops.

DJ Dops was ranked among the five best South African afternoon drive show presenters.

Although DJ Dops did not win in the prestigious NLA, he said he was satisfied with the outcome.

He said he was very happy with the experience he gained during the awards ceremony, held at Sandton in Johannesburg.

“In the Liberty Awards I competed with the best in the radio industry. It was an honour for me. That nomination helped me to improve and I am very optimistic that this time around I will win,” said DJ Dops.

Marycate Masilela, the producer of the BCR afternoon drive show, requested those who wanted to vote for DJ Dops to do so. SMS BFM16C to 45545.
