Argentum Corona celebrates year-end with Christmas party

The local organisation for seniors, Argentum Corona, ended off their year's activities with a Christmas party.

MALALANE – Cake, Christmas carols and paper crowns made Argentum Corona’s year-end lunch on Thursday a jolly affair.

It was hosted by the United Church of Christ the King at the Nederduitsch Hervormde Kerk, and members of the non-profit organisation for senior citizens attended in their numbers.

Hosts, helpers and supporters who organised events throughout the year were also invited to join in the merriment.

Each guest received a bottle of marmalade and Argentum members were given a Christmas cake to enjoy over the festive season.

The Ven Roland Carle encouraged guests to consider and remember God’s love for us and our love for Him and our neighbours.

Chairman Marie Coetzee bid everyone welcome and handed over a thank-you gift to special guest René Bekker, who founded Argentum Corona in June 1983.

Sanet van Greunen, a singer from Komatipoort, entertained the guests with songs ranging from Christmas carols and gospel to country classics, while they enjoyed a delicious three-course meal.

He then handed over his crown to the newly elected “Sprankelvrou”, Ria Pienaar.

Ria Pienaar was chosen as the Sprankel personality of 2018.

The new year’s management committee was also introduced. Coetzee is still chairman, with Sue Carle as vice-chair, Christa Prinsloo as secretary and Alieta Erasmus and Pienaar as additional members.
