BREAKING: Accident on Long Tom Pass – huge diesel spill
The truck company is refusing my quotation for the clean-up of the spillage, thus I will be opening the pass.

LYDENBURG – An accident occurred on the Long Tom Pass which resulted in a severe diesel spillage.
According to Deon Broekman, hazmat operator, the accident occurred just after 09:00 this morning near the Sabie/Mbombela turn-off.
“A NiDA haul truck lost control, allegedly on account of speeding, which resulted in the accident. The truck company is refusing my quotation for the clean-up of the spillage, thus I will be opening the pass.”
Broekman said that he is removing all rescue equipment from the scene and that the risk of opening the pass will rest on the hauling company. “The diesel spill is severe. The truck also lost its load and is now laying halfway across one of the lanes. I am removing all equipment and rescue personnel.”

The driver of the truck only sustained minor injuries and a broken leg.
Road users are urged to use extreme causing using the road on account of the load and diesel spill.
