People are prepared to fight crime

Self-proclaimed reformed gangster, Gift "Scapbro" Mnisi, warned troublemakers at local schools to refrain from gangsterism, as it truly does not pay.

He said instead, crime destroys the lives of innocent people.

Mnisi was speaking to learners of KaMhola High School last Wednesday. He was leading community members who called themselves a concerned group. They are concerned about the high crime rate, which is also prevalent in schools.

KaMhola was recently in the headlines, when Falakhe Mabuza was stabbed to death by a fellow learner.

After addressing them, the group had a meeting with the teachers, mapping their way forward regarding how they are going to work together to fight gangsterism, ill-discipline and sexual relationships between staff and pupils.

The SAPS and NPO, Kingdom of Heaven is Near resorted to divine intervention while the concerned community members warned learners and teachers that enough was enough.

They have vowed to use force to curb the social ills, which are a great concern to the entire community of Barberton.

The concerned group blamed the teachers for these sexual indiscretions.

Meanwhile, also taking place last Wednesday, the Barberton SAPS held a prayer session at the Faith Mission Church at Extension 7 in Emjindini.

The main purpose, according to Col Clementine Mayisela, who spoke on behalf of the station commander Col Johan Engelbrecht, was for the police force to humble themselves before the Lord.

The colonel stated that they had tried their best in combating crime but felt like they were fighting a losing battle.

“We have tried with our guns in vain, so now we invite the Lord to give us wisdom to help us.
“We also requested all those who came to pray and support the teachers with the trauma of encountering such devastation at schools due to rampant learners.

“I want to also inform you that you are not alone in this battle. The station has also put programmes in place to assist you.”

According to Mayisela, the programmes include social visits.
