BREAKING: Shootout in front of Obaro – suspects arrested
Moela said that six of the suspects were arrested shortly after the ambush. One managed to flee the scene but was hunted down by police bringing the total arrested to seven.
LYDENBURG – A shootout between seven alleged robbers and police took place in front of Obaro just before 12:00 today.
According to Capt. Kaizer Moela, Lydenburg SAPS spokesperson, police received information regarding the possible robbery of one of the banks in town.
Several shots were fired when police ambushed the suspects just before the Burgersfort/Lydenburg road. According to information received, the suspects were travelling in a grey Mercedes Benz and a VW Polo Vivo. They apparently had explosives in their possession and SAPS is currently waiting for the bomb squad from Mbombela and Whiteriver to assist.

The entire crossing at Ohrigstad/Burgersfort/Lydenburg was barred off. Heavy police presence is still at the scene.
