Mobile unit to provide full home affairs services
LYDENBURG - A mobile unit has been provided for, behind the building of the Department of Home Affairs (DHA), to render services to the public.
This follows after the closure of the building two weeks ago. Its roof apparently caved in on account of a termite infestation and the whole building is at risk.
Since the closure residents have been struggling with obtaining much-needed documentation and services.
The unit provides full DHA services including temporary identity cards, birth certificates, marriage certificates and passports. Smart identity cards can only be done at the nearest offices such as Sabie and Burgersfort.
According to the office manager of Lydenburg’s DHA, Angel Yende, the unit will be available until an alternative has been found to the collapsing building. She urges residents of Praktiseer and Burgersfort to rather make use of those offices providing the same services.
“The mobile unit serves Lydenburg and close proximity areas and will be available until further notice.”
