Mine roads blocked again

At 09:00 the roads were still blocked and several workers had no other choice but to turn around and head back home.

LYDENBURG – The R37 leading to various mines in the district has again been blocked by protestors since early Wednesday morning.

The roads, including the one from Steelpoort to Lydenburg, was barricaded by means of trucks. This is the umpteenth time protesters have blocked the mine roads accusing the mines of not providing locals with job opportunities.

Mine workers were advised to take alternative routes in order to reach their workplace. According to information received, the trucks were forced to pull over at certain spots where community members continued to forcefully take the keys from the drivers.

At 09:00 the roads were still blocked and several workers had no other choice but to turn around and head back home.

It is not certain how long the roads will be blocked.
