
LYDENBURG – The South African Weather service (SAWS) has issued an amber alert for heavy rainfall starting today (Monday).
Widespread thundershowers and cold weather are expected from Monday until Wednesday, the SAWS said.
“The South African Weather Service is monitoring the development of a cut-off low pressure system.
“There is potential for some areas to receive significant amounts of rainfall from this weather system, and this may result in localized flooding.”
The weather service said temperatures are also expected to drop significantly.
The warning was issued for provinces including Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Kwazulu Natal and the Free State.
An amber alert refers to the following weather conditions:
