Lion captured: Update on what follows next

LYDENBURG – The now famous Long Tom lion is currently at Wildlife Vet in Mbombela.
The cat was captured early this morning when SAPS’s O.A. Ian Nel was called out to a sighting of the cat.

A van Wettens driver spotted the lion at Hops Hollow about 20 kilometres from town.

Nel kept an eye on the cat until predator expert at the Mpumalanga Parks Tourism Agency’s (MPTA), Gerrie Camacho, and other members managed to dart it.
Camacho said that the lion will be tested for tuberculosis and other possible ilnesses. “Depending on the oucome of the tests, it will determine where and when the animal will be released back into the wild.”
He said that this is the third lion that had been found on this pass.
