LYDENBURG – Less than a week after the capture of the Long Tom lion a leopard was spotted just behind Skhila.
The incident happened just after 14:00 today (Friday).
Three men, Tshepo Lubisi, Robert Maeyane and Mpho Moyone was gathering firewood when they heard a rustling sound near them.
“We thought it might be a baboon and moved towards the sound. All of a sudden the leopard rose from the bush and growled.”
The men immediately dropped their wood and ran away. They contacted the locals SAPS who went out to the scene.
“The area is very thick and it is extremely hard to spot anything,” Capt Kaizer Moela of Lydenburg SAPS said.
Moela urged anyone in the area to be extremely careful and avoid walking out and about until more clarity on the cat could be established.
Gerrie Camacho, predator expert at Mpumalanga’s Parks and Tourism Agency (MPTA) was informed of the sighting.
