WARNING: Housebreaking suspects armed and dangerous

LYDENBURG – Residents are urged to take extra precaution as it is now believed that the suspects responsible for the recent housebreaking’s are armed and dangerous.
According to SAPS spokesperson, Alfred Moela, officers were called out to yet another housebreaking in Kerk Street. He said that this type of crime has increased tremendously over the past couple of weeks.
“SAPS members were informed of this breaking just after 03:00 on Monday morning. According to information received, the family was awoken by a noise in the house. When they went to investigate, they found the windows in the nursery open. Upon further investigation, they found out that the kettle, as well as a cellphone, was missing.”

“Thankfully no members of the SAPS were injured when the suspects opened fire. The suspects fled and it cannot be determined how many there were. It is of utmost importance that residents be aware that these suspects are armed and dangerous. If you can, join a neighbourhood watch or the local community policing forum. Do not confront the suspects and dial the Lydenburg SAPS’s complaints office as soon as possible.”
He said that residents should also make sure to lock all doors and gates from early at night. “Report any suspicious activity to the SAPS as soon as possible. The office can be contacted on 01-235-2222/2223 at any time.
