LYDENBURG – Two horrific accidents this weekend ended in tragedy when four people died.
Sunday three Brazillian tourists burnt to death in a Rav 4 when their vehicle collided head-on with that of a Ford Focus on the Dullstroom road. The accident happened about 25km outside town.
Rapid Response, Swift Ambulance services, Netcare 911, HBK towing and the SAPS reacted immediately to the call out. According to Deon Broekman Fire Chief of Rapid Response, there was nothing to be done for the tourists in the Rav 4. “They were burnt beyond recognition.”
On Saturday, a Thaba Chweu Local Municipality (TCLM) employee also died on the same road when his Opel Corsa veered off the road and collided with a tree in the nearby veld. JJ Mlangeni has been working for TCLM since 2008. According to Broekman, he sustained severe injuries and despite the attempts of paramedics, Mlangeni was declared dead on the scene. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.
