Water restrictions for this week for the city
Residents have been urged to use water sparingly after a break in a canal occurred.

Sembcorp Silulumanzi are busy repairing the break along the canal which runs from the Lowveld Showgrounds through to the Agricultural Research Centre.
According to Mbombela Municipality spokesman Joseph Ngala, the matter should be fixed within three to four days. The break along the raw canal which channels raw water into the Water Treatment Works (WTW) has to be repaired.
“They are not shutting down to repair the canal, they are just reducing the amount of water pumped. They will be continuing to work and supply water throughout the duration of the repairs,” said Ngala.
The WTW is being run at reduced capacity due to lesser volume of water flowing into the purification works.
Ngala concluded that due to the rainy weather conditions predicted for the city, people should not be watering their gardens this week.
Some tips for saving some water:
• Turn off taps while brushing teeth – it can save six litres of water per minute.
• Place a displacement device in your toilet cistern to reduce the volume of water used in each flush. A brick works.
• Take showers instead of long baths.
• Using full loads in your washing machine and dishwasher to cut down on the number of washes.
• Fix dripping taps. It can waste 15 litres of water a day, or 5 500 litres of water a year.
The public can report any water leaks or damaged water pipes to 0861-74-5858.
