Naranja Packers celebrates its unique wellness day

The day started off with a warm welcome, and the long anticipated fun run/walk. The three-kilometre trail took workers through the beautiful bushveld and citrus orchards. Standing at the packhouse, it looked like a sea of orange curving through the trees, as all the workers wore white shirts and orange caps.

After the run staff were rewarded with medals and ice-cold water, followed with an appetising breakfast consisting of tasty sandwiches, an apple, a muffin, an energy bar and a juice served in a environmentally-friendly folded cardboard box.

Fun and laughter were soon to follow with traditional games. Workers had to split into teams. Thy were blindfolded and guided through a maze of crates by their team members screaming directions from all sides. After they completed the maze, each teammate had to run with a potato on a spoon without dropping it. If they did drop it, they had to start all over again.

The next phase of the games left team members with their hands in their hair. They had to throw a water balloon into one of three coffee containers. This seemed like an impossible task, but the Naranja team has excellent hand-eye coordination and they quickly proceeded to the next stage. The last part of the games involved fitness and creative thinking. One bucket was full of water and a couple of metres away was an empty bucket. The team had only sponges to to transfer the water to fill the empty one.

Meanwhile on the stage, choirs and dance groups were competing to be named the best of the day. Because the day was about wellness, everyone had the opportunity to be tested for HIV/Aids or tuberculosis, and get their blood pressure and glucose level tested. Lunch was served followed by the prize-giving, where the employees’ efforts were well rewarded. Everyone was in good spirits and had loads of fun, while also discovering more about their health. This day was, without a doubt, a huge success.
