Ga Motodi residents experience water problems

"We have reported the problem to the Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) but they only made empty promises. People will become sick because we bath, drink and do our laundry in the same river," said Mavis Lekubu, a concerned resident.

BURGERSFORT – For over three months residents of Ga Motodi Village have been lacking clean water.  Communities in the area said they are forced to fetch water from the Tswetlane River.

According to Silas Maboko, a resident, they either have to drink and cook with dirty water, or buy clean water which cost them R3 for a few litres.

The residents have to push wheelbarrows for two kilometres to transport the water to their homes. According to them the water pump and a transformer that supplied the area with water are damaged .

“We have reported the problem to the Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) but they only made empty promises. People will become sick because we bath, drink and do our laundry in the same river,” said Mavis Lekubu, a concerned resident. SDM’s spokesman, Willy Mosoma said they are aware of the problems faced by the community.

“We are at an advanced stage to have the borehole fixed. Its not a damaged water pump, it’s just a tripping transformer.

“The residents should not panic as this matter will be sorted soon.” The affected communities include Mapeding, Morena and Moshate sections.
