BURGERSFORT – The Road Agency Limpopo (RAL) has confirmed last week that the rehabilitation of the 17-kilometre D737 (Olifantspoortjie Road) will commence in the 2019/20 financial year. In February 2018, RAL explained that it will cost more than R40 million to fix the pothole-ridden road.
Head of communications at RAL, Bernard Manyathela, said they will look to rebuild the road at the start of their next financial year in April.
“We have already started with the planning phase. We will start communicating with users when we commence with the work.”
He said there was a backlog in both the upgrading and maintenance of roads in Limpopo.
“We need additional funding to address some of the new projects. In order to address new projects, creative and innovative funding projects are required. This agency will strive in enhancing and strengthening strategic partnerships,” he added.

“It has been years that the road is in a dire state. We were promised that temporary improvements would be made, but to this day nothing has happened,” said regular user, Patrick Malepa.
Motorists have expressed their disgust with the condition of the road on various social platforms and highlighted their frustrations to Steelburger/Lydenburg News for some time now. They also pleaded with RAL to speed up the process of rebuilding the road.
