Locals risk their lives daily on eroding road
The residents said they had been waiting for years for the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM) to provide them with a better road.

BURGERSFORT – Residents in Phashaskraal are concerned about the state of the gravel road and access bridge in their village.
Residents said driving in the village has been a nightmare. “There is a section where only one car can drive. Part of the road has been eroded. Big cars and trucks cannot even pass the damaged self-made access bridges,”said Peter Phasha, a resident.
The residents said they had been waiting for years for the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM) to provide them with a better road.
“We had reported this dilemma to the former Greater Tubatse Municipality, but to this day nothing has happened. Our kids struggle to go to schools during the rainy season. It is chaos when it rains. We risk our lives on this road. It can cave in any time,” said Skhumbuzo Nkosi.

Spokesman for FTLM, Ngwato Rachidi said they were aware of the state of the road.
“It falls outside the amenable powers and functions, and we have referred the matter to the Limpopo Department of Roads, Infrastructure and Public Works,” he said.
According to Rachidi, the municipality had budgeted for nine access bridges; namely Mpuru, Dithamaga, Tjate, Morokadieta, Thokwane, Bothashoek, Ga Malwane and Lefahla.
Limpopo government’s roads and transport spokesman, Joshua Kwapa, said they were unaware of the damaged bridge. “We will report the matter to the relevant departments and we will ensure it gets fixed.”
