Phala was appointed as the mayor on March 4.

As is customary, she presented an overview of her first 100 days to local communities. The event was hosted at Burgersfort’s Extension 10 and was attended by local councillors, the municipal’s administration team, as well as members of the community.

Phala said her team inherited a system which was on the verge of a total collapse amid the VBS saga, but they still managed to achieve some goals within the 100 days in office. Among her achievements was the successful meetings with the Magoshis, as well as the IDP and budget consultations with traditional leaders.

“In my short tenure, we managed to engage with the mine houses to solicit funds for infrastructural projects. The acceleration of services was evident when we recently ensured people of Kopi Village received electricity.

FTLM also successfully handed wheelchairs to disabled families at Ga Malepe and Nchabeleng villages. We also managed to adopt the 2019/20 IDP and budget,” the mayor confirmed to the gathered crowd.

In conclusion, Phala reiterated that her municipality’s immediate task was to improve their financial situation and to implement projects that are a priority to locals.

“We shall continue to knock on every door of the decision-makers to plead with them to avail more resources for channelling towards basic services like roads, electricity, access bridges and waste management.”

The event also served to kickstart the Youth Month programmes that were implemented by FTLM. Extension 10’s residents thanked Phala and her team for ensuring their area was clean and tidy.
