Soccer Academy to unearth new talents in Tubatse

The hidden soccer talents in Tubatse will now be in the spotlight, thanks to the Batlokwa Shepherd Academy has promised to develop soccer locally. The academy is a community based initiative that aims to keep children and youth from the street life through playing football. They are training young boys of the ages of six to 14 at Mafarafara Village outside Burgersfort.

Speaking to Steelburger/Lydenburg News, Dannyboy Mosome, one of the academy’s founders and mentors, said their service package includes football development, life skills and also aims to craft careers in football and other sporting codes. Mosome indicated that there will be an influx of local kids participating in the top level.

“We want youngsters to utilise their energy in a positive way, away from alcohol, drugs and crime. Soccer, in the absence of proper infrastructure in our area, has proven to be the one way of achieving it.”
He said the academy has talented players and they have already arranged trials for the youngsters with Premier Soccer League (PSL) sides such as Baroka FC and SuperSport United.
“We recently took our boys to a training camp in Pretoria; four of them excelled and might secure contracts with the National First Division sides or PSL teams.”
During the festive season, the academy also received a much-needed gift when they were donated a full soccer kit by local advocate Ernest Makanatla Marule.”We thank Marule for the donation.
