Dignitaries attend mass funeral for kids

MECKLENBURG – Hundreds of mourners supported the Monyela family at the burial of their four children on Sunday. The brutally murdered children were buried at Ga-Phasha Selatole Cemetery.

The mass funeral was attended by Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality’s mayor, Ralepane Mamekoa, Sekhukhune District Municipality representatives as well as the MEC for transport and community safety, Namane Dickson Masemola.

Katlego (9), Joyce (7), Tshepo (5) and Adel Phasha (3) were allegedly killed by their father, Senyatje Lucas Phasha, on February 18.

According to the family, the children were found dead at two separate places. “The bodies of Katlego, Joyce and Tshepo had five-inch nails in their heads and necks, while the youngest one was bludgeoned to death with a huge stone,” said the relatives. The suspect’s case has been postponed to May 28 for further police investigation.

Speakers at the funeral sympathised with the Monyela family. They were urged to be strong. Masemola consoled the bereaved family and assured them that the culprit will be punished.
