Local NPO donates to the needy

STEELPOORT – Charity organisations and businesses across the country have heeded President Cyril Ramaphosa’s call for them to step in and provide much needed help to vulnerable communities during the lockdown.

A local Nonprofit organisation (NPO), Please Our Land Charity has been providing food parcels to locals in Burgersfort and Steelpoort.

Since the start of the lockdown,the organisation has provided food parcels to hundreds of locals.

“We have realised that some households are struggling to put food on the table. We donate to the needy and vulnerable families in the communities,”revealed CEO of the charity Lazarus Magakwe.

He said many people were unemployed, relied on piecemeal jobs or had been operating informal businesses and are unable to afford basic food items during the lockdown.

“We opted to donate food parcels, which contained flour, maize meal, bread ,fish, samp, washing powders and other basic food items to families.”

He said the families will have food on the table for the coming weeks.

He pleaded with business and Good Samaritans to help donate food parcels and to assist with funds .

One of the recipients Concelia Marobane expressed her sincere gratitude on behalf of other beneficiaries, saying that the donation would go a long way and it means that their families won’t go hungry.

Portia Maphanga said they were beaming with smiles and gratitude for what the foundation has done for the communities.
