Silulumanzi is a private sector Water Service Provider within the City of Mbombela. The company has a vacant position for a Sewer Treatment Superintendent.

Reporting to: Town Manager

Location: Mbombela, Concession Area

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

• Minimum qualifications are NTC III in Wastewater Treatment Practice or Appropriate NQF level 4 qualification with 15-years’ experience, OR National Diploma or NTC VI or 3-year BSc or appropriate NQF 5 qualification with 6-years’ experience,

• Class V Department Water and Sanitation (DWS) Classification in Wastewater Process operation and control

• Valid Code B driver’s license.

• Computer Literacy on MSOffice packages.

Key Responsibilities:

The main tasks and responsibilities associated with the position are listed below.

This is not an exhaustive list of tasks and responsibilities and any other tasks and/or responsibilities that could be reasonably expected for the position may be required.

1. Attend to the treatment or purification of wastewater on Class A works through the application of specific operation procedures controlling plant performance, conducting of tests, and executing approved corrective measures to address deviation.

2. Execute the principles, practices and methods involved in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment works.

3. Attend to the removal and disposal of debris, screenings and sludge from components

4. Investigate specific complaints and/or inspects the condition of Wastewater Treatment Works

5. Attend to preparatory, in-process and completion activities during maintenance/repair Works

6. Supervise outcome and provide guidance on the interpretation of instructions/requirements and procedures

7. Operation of Digestors, Screw-presses and sludge management

8. Operations of pumps, motors, piping and process control systems and instrumentation.

9. Basic budget administration.

10. Knowledge of materials, suppliers and equipment needed for an effective maintenance program.

11. Ability to plan, assign and review operations and maintenance work program.

12. Thorough knowledge of the total operations of the treatment work processes in order to utilise facilities and personnel most effective.

Skills and Abilities:

1. Ability to read, understand and prepare plans and/or sketches.

2. Good knowledge of the practices, tools, equipment and terminology used in the installation, maintenance, inspection and repair of water distribution and wastewater collection system.

3. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, with ability to learn other computer software programs.

4. Filling and administration

5. Must be fluent in English, while Siswati and Afrikaans will be an added advantage.

6. Knowledge of ISO and SHEQ systems, procedures and practices.
