Penryn learners feature at the MathArt Competition

The national competition challenged grade seven to 12 learners to combine artistic creativity with mathematical problem-solving in a new and innovative way.

Tamia McKenzie, grade eight, and JunHee Yoo, grade nine, of Penryn were recently announced winners of the MathArt Competition at Govan Mbeki Mathematics Development Centre.

Kayla Kirton, Simuthande Mdluli and Michael Booysen were commended winners.

“MathArt challenges you to use both sides of your brain to create an original artwork that connects mathematics in a visual and creative way to the theme of the competition. This year’s theme was My Universe, and our scholars have not disappointed,” said Penryn Marketing.

“We await more results from seniors, as Penryn had a whopping 21 artists in the final.”
