Sunbake’s – Heritage Day winners

Pieter Malan, who goes by the alias PappaChef, shared his braaibroodjie recipe with us as we celebrated Heritage Day. Readers also got to share their own braaiboodjie recipe. See who the winners are of the various gift packs.

“To me a braaibroodjie is comfort, it relates to our DNA and is simply enjoyed by everyone”, says PappaChef.

  4. Layer tomato slices followed by red onion on each Sunbake “broodjie”

  8. Cover the cheese mix with the other slice, buttered side facing up and close grid softly (do not press too hard for cheese to run out)

The following winners were selected from entering the Sunbake competition on Lowvelder’s Facebook page

Mangaliso Ngomane

Mangaliso’s winning recipe

Ingredients:

  • SunBake bread
  • Salted butter
  • Chutney
  • Duck fat

Optional

  • Cheese
  • Chutney

Method:

Spread the salted butter on one side of the slice of bread & Chutney on the other. Place the slice on the flaming hot grill for two minutes then flip it over and braai the other side for two minutes. Then remove from fire.

Drizzle whichever side you chose to be the inner side with duck fat. Enjoy with any choice of filling. I personally prefer cheese and onions, the cheese melts from the residual heat of the bread. It takes between 6 & 8 minutes to prepare.
