Esteemed teacher nominated for global award

Hoërskool Bergvlam’s Louise Fullard continues to stamp her mark on the teaching profession as her recent nomination to the 2020 Global Teachers Award (GTA) can attest to.
The resourceful teacher made waves with her involvement in the school’s e-learning system, Moodle, during the hard
lockdown. This is a testament to the extent Fullard goes to ensure that teaching and learning continue under even the most trying circumstances.
She will be pitted against nominees from 110 countries as the virtual awards unfold on December 20. This will be
preceded by Teacher Inspiration Week, which will be held from December 14 to 19.

The GTA will be presented in a hybrid, virtual format and nominees will attend remotely, affording each one the
opportunity to share in speeches from global experts, conduct panel discussions and participate in networking discussions among their peers.
The nomination came as a surprise to Fullard, but her award for excellence in technology, enhanced teaching and learning in February played a pivotal role in her getting the nod.
“I was caught totally off guard by the nomination and found out that the minister of education had submitted the nomination after I received the award earlier this year.

“Nationally, there is a list of criteria candidates have to meet to be nominated as an educator who has made an outstanding contribution to the teaching profession,” said Fullard.
This includes the effective practical application that contributes to the quality of teaching worldwide, providing
innovative initiatives to challenges in the school, environment and the world.
Additionally, successfully achieving learner outcomes in the classroom, positively impacting the environment
outside the classroom and guiding learners to become global participants.

This, coupled with improving the teaching practices through pursuing excellence the empowering of other educators
and receiving national recognition from the minister of education for excellence, completes the stringent
requirements to be eligible for the nomination.
The GTA will be facilitated from Delhi, India and will be the largest virtual award ceremony taking place from 10:00 to 16:00 (Indian Standard Time), or 06:30 to 12:30 in South Africa.
