Lowvelders band together to support local businesses at the Sonpark Farmer’s Market

Que’s Café owner, Monique Seibold, made the space available for anyone willing to donate dog food to the Nelspruit SPCA.

Lowvelders looking to support local small business owners need not look any further than the Farmer’s Market at Sonpark.

The array of homemade goods on offer ranges from jewellery to Asian cuisine, arts and crafts and so much more.

The Covid-19 pandemic and the national lockdown have wreaked havoc on many purse strings, impacting negatively on the bottom line of local businesses.

The number of residents who came out in support bore testimony to the Lowveld attribute of extending a hand to alleviate the plight of others.

Many visitors brought along their children, who marvelled at the balloon modelling abilities of Zippy the magic clown, while others stood in line to have their faces painted.

The slight downpour and overcast weather were no match for the fun to be had.

Wynand and Ilse Maré, or Havanna, provided live entertainment, performing well-known covers such as Sadé’s “Smooth Operator” and a number of others to add ambience to a market that constantly introduces new and exciting sights to the Lowveld.

One attraction, in particular, had visitors gawking at the women who were keeping fit on mini-trampolines, while energetic music blared from the speakers.

Our furry friends were not forgotten either.

Que’s Café owner, Monique Seibold, made the space available for anyone willing to donate dog food to the Nelspruit SPCA.

“I saw on its Facebook page that the dry store had little to no food and decided to pitch in. This is the time of the year that many people surrender their animals,” she said.

The process is quite simple – all visitors to Que’s Café can drop off dog food donations at the stage where Havanna performs and enjoy a 20 per cent discount on their bill for the day.

Seibold can be contacted on 081-739-4637 for more information.
