PCA meets a living legend and fellow biker on its tour

PCA's Ride for a Child will see bikers riding around the furthest corners of the country over 21 days to raise much-needed funds for urgent medical care for children.

The Pedatric Care Africa (PCA) team arrived safely in Lalapanzi on Sunday night, where they were met by the one and only Maj Mandisa Mfeka, South Africa’s first black female fighter pilot, following the start of the 6 867km-long Ride for a Child charity motorbike event that morning.

Founder and CEO of PCA, Dr André Hattingh, said the riders had left White River Square on Sunday morning on their charity trip and arrived in Lalapanzi, just 20km before Louis Trichardt, that evening.

“We were met by a group of bikers who came out to meet us, and to our surprise, Maj Mfeka was one of them,” said Hattingh.

“Maj Mfeka is the first black female fighter pilot in South Africa and a keen biker. She flies military jets for the South African Air Force.

“It was absolutely fantastic meeting her and all the persons who had come out to meet us,” he said.

Hattingh added that they will be riding to the most northern point of South Africa next, the Beitbridge Border with Zimbabwe, and from there they will travel to Lephalale in Limpopo.
