Numbi Auto’s pre-owned continues the legacy
Mention the name Numbi Auto and many Lowvelders, past and present, will fondly relate to the name, the people and the service they received when they bought their first, second or even more cars from the dealership at 6 Chief Mgiyeni Khumalo in White River, now the new home of Westvaal Isuzu White River.

Numbi Auto was established by the late Bertie Pieterse in the 1960s. The dealership became part and parcel of the Lowveld community by first selling fuel and then the Mazda and Ford brands since 1968. Two ex mayors – one from Sabie and one from White River, joined the company’s workforce over the years, namely Oom Carel Dannhauser and Oom Johann Waldeck. “We want to pay to pay tribute to them for the many years of loyal service at Numbi Auto.” Oom Carel, at the age of 77, is still living his dream – selling new Ford Rangers daily to his many loyal customers at the new home of Westvaal Numbi Ford at the White River Crossing Centre.
In 2019 the Numbi Auto dealership became part of the Westvaal Group under the name Westvaal Numbi Ford.

Numbi Auto was brought back due to popular demand with the recent opening of a pre-owned dealership at the corner of Tom Lawrence and Theo Kleynhans streets in White River.
“We always wanted to keep the well-known name and trusted dealer reputation in the community alive and with this Used Car stand, it presented the right opportunity to do so,” says Stephan Venter, general manager.
Numbi Auto boasts a 20 000 Facebook following and the website is being updated with the new home of Numbi Auto.
“The intention with the pre-owned dealership is to expand our current ‘Ford Approve’ range and to offer mostly passenger vehicles in the price range between R100 000 and R350 000 to the local market.”
“We want to buy and sell vehicles with mileage below 100 000km, but also want to cater for older, but well-cared-for and affordable cars to the market,” says Venter.
So if you need wheels or want to sell your car, visit the dealership and speak to the highly experienced sales team. “We promise to honour the Numbi legacy by providing quality vehicles and beyond the norm service,” says Jean Coetzee, used car manager.

Westvaal Numbi Ford in White River – trusted and boasting 53 years of Ford tough service to its community. Even Miss Corona shudders when she hears the name.
“We are very blessed that we survived the first and second Covid wave without any retrenchments, but unfortunately lost a very dear and loyal staff member, Teresa du Plessis, due to the virus this year. We also said goodbye to two staff members who retired after many good years at Numbi Auto.”
Philemon Maseko
Maseko worked for Numbi Auto for 37 years and is now enjoying the fruits of retirement. He joined Numbi Auto in 1984 as a driver. “He soon proved his potential and it was decided to make him a parts sales person,” says Danie Jordaan, parts manager at Westvaal Numbi. He was quite successful at this but then decided to grab the opportunity to sell cars. Next he worked as a workshop service adviser and eventually became the parts manager at the Hazyview branch – a position he held until his retirement.
“He will be remembered for his honesty, loyalty and willingness to always render help and support where it was needed,” says Jordaan.
Thelma Nheleko
“Fourteen years in the wash bay – always the first to start in the morning and the last to leave – this was Thelma,” says Angeline van Heerden, Westvaal Numbi Ford service manager. “Despite the fact that we had to communicate with Thelma with the help of a translator, we always appreciated her humble, but thorough, work ethic. She was proud to do what she did and yes, we miss her! We hope she enjoys retirement and stays safe.”
“Due to unforeseen changes in the global economy there are always opportunities in the local car industry and to grow our business in White River by opening a used car site was only a blessing,” says Gerrit Kroon, director at Numbi Motors.
“We look forward to growing and developing this site and the Numbi Auto pre-owned brand to its full potential with our strong sales and management teams’ commitment. We wish them well and remember – local is the new loyalty…”
