Moms will love luxury weekend on the edge of the Kruger

The four-star Mdluli Safari Lodge is gearing up for a Mother’s Day weekend in the bushveld that will leave lasting memories.

With their discounted rates for domestic travellers, anyone can spoil Mom with a stay in one of the lodge’s luxury tents, a candle-lit dinner in the boma surrounded by the sounds of lions and nightjars, and a sunset drive on an open safari vehicle.

Mdluli Safari Lodge is located in the Mdluli Reserve inside the Kruger National Park (KNP); elephants roaming past you as you sip cocktails in the infinity pool is therefore no strange sight. Forget about Zoom meetings, host your business conference in the state-of-the-art boardroom while you overlook grazing impalas and wildebeest on your doorstep.

This one-of-a-kind luxury tented camp scored a remarkable AA+ on its environmental social and governance impact study, thanks to its sensitivity towards the environment, anti-poaching efforts, water use, sewerage treatment and the mint state in which it keeps its surroundings. Even the floorboards are built to complement the surrounding ecosystems.

“We have a strict policy to leave a light footprint, while still offering guests a world-class luxury stay in the Kruger Park,” said operation manager, Lisa Soiné.

Mdluli Safari Lodge forms part of a community project within the Mdluli Trust. “This reserve in the KNP is restored land. The late Chief MZ Mdluli, who passed away in 1998, started the process of claiming this land,” Soiné said. “He wanted to create employment and uplift the community, so that it could built schools and other necessary facilities. The sponsors of the lodge wanted to honour him, the royal family and the community, and erecting a statue of the late senior traditional leader.”

Today, the life-sized statue of Chief Mdluli stands proud under the great marula tree at the entrance to the lodge. His legacy lives on in the local residents who visit the lodge and the many who are employed at Mdluli Safari Lodge.

“We mainly employ members of the local community,” said Soiné. “They get training on the job and in this way, also work for their community’s earnings. This is not just a job to them – it’s a lifelong and evolving project.”

Mdluli Safari Lodge is located six kilometres from the KNP’s Numbi Gate after entering the fenced area of the park. For more information, exciting competitions and specials, see the contact information below.
