Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine honours Ngwaabe Circuit’s best pupils

“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” With this idea in mind, Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine (DCM) awarded trophies and laptops to the best-achieving pupils, educators and schools from Ngwaabe circuit.

The matric award ceremony was organised at Tubatse Chrome Club on May 21. The event was attended by DCM representatives, officials from the Limpopo department of education, principals from Ngwaabe circuit, School Management teams, and officials from the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM) and representatives from teachers unions.  The attendees were all clad in red jackets that were donated by the mine.

The feeder primary school to the top-performing school (Maelebe Primary) was also handed a trophy and laptop.

In total, the DCM handed nine laptops and 11 trophies to the best achievers on the day.

Speaking on behalf of the DCM, Thabo Maluleke applauded the learners who did excellent in the 2020 matric results.

“We will like to applaud the hard work from the Ngwaabe circuit. 2020 was a tough year with the outbreak of the Covi-19 Pandemic.

“The pupils we are honouring here, took a collective effort and decision to study hard, regardless of the challenges they faced in 2020.”

Maluleke said DCM has programs lined up to improve education in the circuit.

“We will continue partnering with the circuit and try to improve the matric results and the standard of education for the better. Our aim is to see Ngwaabe being amongst the top circuits in Limpopo.”

Comparing the results in previous years, circuit manager Harry Dinkwenyane urged the principals and educators to improve.

“We are one of those circuits that underachieved. Let’s honour those who have excelled. Let’s also resonate with what Seokgome has done and the teachers who were awarded gongs today.”

FTLM’s acting mayor Maria Mashego encouraged local students to work hard.

“Please do not disappoint us by becoming drop-outs at universities. We have companies like DCM that are supportive. Please continue working hard and you will be rewarded.”

The event was concluded with veteran educator and former staff member at the Ngwaabe circuit MW Komane being handed a laptop for his dedication to the circuit. This award is a lifetime achievement wards
