Restaurants put frontline workers on top of their menu

The Greek Kouzina picked up on an initiative that initially started in KwaZulu-Natal, to reward frontline workers with a hearty meal.

These include doctors, pharmacists, security companies and places like hospices. This followed the initial announcement by government that restaurants were not allowed to be open for sit-in dining during the adjusted level 4 lockdown.

The Greek Kouzina decided to continue with the initiative even after it was announced that restaurants may trade at 50% capacity. Sponsors vowed to continue paying for meals that are then delivered to various frontline workers.

Following in The Greek’s footsteps, Stefano’s Mozambican Bar & Pizzeria also jumped aboard.

According to Linda Grimbeek, the COO of the Kruger Lowveld Chamber of Business and Tourism, TERS payments will be extended for industries hit by level 4 regulations.

This includes the liquor industry and the tourism and hospitality sectors. She said business, labour and the government have agreed to extend the Covid-19 TERS payments from UIF.

“The details are being finalised and must still be approved by cabinet, but is expected to follow the same framework as previous payments.”
