Police management sends condolences to Brig Hlathi’s family following his wife’s passing
She passed away on Saturday at the age of 58.
The provincial police commissioner, Lt Gen Semakaleng Manamela, and her management released a statement sending their heartfelt condolences to the provincial police spokesperson, Brig Leonard Hlathi, and his family. This follows the death of Hlathi’s wife, Maleke Elizabeth Hlathi (58), on Saturday July 31.
She died as a result of Covid-related complications. She leaves behind her husband, four daughters, one son and two granddaughters, two brothers and four sisters. She had been a principal at Mhluzi Primary School and had worked for the Department of Education for 26 years.
The police said in the statement they would like to take this opportunity to warn people of the dangers of the Covid-19 pandemic. “Members of the public are advised to continue observing the Covid-19 protocols by sanitising, wearing their masks, regular washing of hands, keeping of social distancing from other people, adhering to the curfew hours from 22:00 to 04:00, ensuring that the number of mourners at funeral gatherings do not exceed 50, as well as ensuring that unventilated spaces are avoided,” said the statement. It also encouraged people, if possible, to register for the Covid-19 vaccination programme.
Manamela said the police would give the family unconditional support during this extremely difficult time. “May the bereaved family find comfort in God and know that they are in our thoughts and prayers, and that we will fully support them,” she said. “We know that as a wife and mother, she was a pillar to her husband, Brig Hlathi, and their children. She will be greatly missed. May her soul rest in peace,” said Manamela.
