Mrs Universe SA finalist wants to make a difference in the world
A mother of two who has never been part of the modelling and pageant circuit is now a finalist in the prestigious Mrs Universe South Africa (SA) competition.
Heidi Betz (33) entered the competition because it supported the platform to stop domestic violence and abuse against women and children. “At the beginning of the year the Lord planted a seed in my heart that He would use me to change women’s lives. I entered competitions of two well-known national magazines, but wasn’t even a top finalist. Friends told me about the Mrs Universe SA pageant and that I should consider entering,” said Betz. Betz is a motivational speaker and social media influencer. She also recently held a mini make-over competition to empower local women (Steelburger/ Lydenburg News Thursday August 12). Betz and her husband, Gunther, were married in 2015. He is a senior rock engineer in the mining industry. They have two beautiful little girls, Neeva (4) and Lyla (1). She is originally from Alberton and said that Lydenburg has crept deep into her heart since they moved here eight years ago.

“I am an educator and skills development facilitator by qualification. I’m not a pageant queen. I did small competitions in my childhood. After a rough two and a half years without work and not knowing what I was supposed to do with my life, I just prayed and prayed to the Holy Spirit to guide me. I have always felt that I can somehow be an inspiration. I want to teach my two daughters they can be anything, do anything and strive to become anything they want to be. Simply follow your dreams and believe. I always wanted to make a difference in the world,” she continued. “It is one of my passions to be a voice for those who can’t speak. I want to be a vessel to empower wives and daughters. We all have a story. Mine starts now,” said Betz. The next workshop for Mrs Universe SA will be on October 23 and the finals are on February 26, 2022. The purpose of the Mrs Universe South Africa pageant is to offer South African women, married and divorced, an opportunity to reach a wider audience and to represent South Africa at Mrs Universe.
