Mayor encourages women to lead the Covid-19 fight

The town's first citizen, executive mayor Sylvia Nxumalo, has urged all women within this municipality to flock to vaccination stations to receive the jab.

Speaking about issues concerning and affecting today’s women, Nxumalo said the women’s class of 1956 had a different battle to fight, but they had fought it with courage and won.

“And today’s generation of women have their own battles to fight, such as gender-based violence, HIV/Aids and the current Covid-19 pandemic.

“For us to win the current battle against Covid-19, we need to get every woman to go and get vaccinated. This is the only way we will be able to defeat this giant enemy we are currently facing as a country,” said Nxumalo.
She lauded the provincial government for bringing vaccination centres closer to the people, especially to those in rural areas.

“Let us dedicate this Women’s Month to our struggle heroine, Charlotte Maxeke, by going all out to get vaccinated. We will not only be protecting ourselves, but our families and communities as well. Government has brought the services closer to our communities and the ball is in our court right now. Let us encourage one another to go and be vaccinated,” she appealed.

Bushbuckridge has so far recorded 8 717 recoveries and 160 deaths due to Covid-19.

“Today’s women need to lead the fight and campaign to get everyone vaccinated, so that we can disrupt the spread of the virus and go back to our lives,” concluded Nxumalo.
