Billboards to help animals get boarding

“I saw this as the ideal opportunity. Both my boss and I are animal lovers and when I approached him with the idea he immediately gave the go-ahead," said Marco Nel, the local sales representative for Blue Label Media.

Pro-Life Pet Rescue, Rehabilitation and Adoption Agency were granted the opportunity to educate the public with two billboards in the city. The billboards went live on September 13.

The billboards belong to Blue Label Media and are located on Samora Machel Drive near Absa Square as well as on Madiba Drive opposite Renault Nelspruit.

Marco Nel, the local sales representative for the company, said he got the inspiration for this initiative from an Instagram post of something similar that was done in the UK.

Advertisements were put up of dogs and cats that have been waiting for homes for a long time and the billboards made a remarkable difference.

“I saw this as the ideal opportunity. Both my boss and I are animal lovers and when I approached him with the idea he immediately gave the go-ahead.

“All of this happened in a very short time and I cannot say how long they will have the billboard space for, but if I can help it, as long as possible.”

Leigh-Ann Auerswald, the chairperson at Pro-Life, said Nel had contacted her and told her about the UK initiative.

“They thought it was a wonderful idea and offered us the opportunity to advertise on their three digital billboards (the one on Samora Machel has two sides and thus counts as the third billboard).

“Needless to say I jumped at the opportunity!

“This is a wonderful way for us to advertise our pets and educate the public. We are extremely grateful.”

Auerswald said that Pro-Life is a non-profit organisation so it does not spend any money on advertising. “We would rather use funds to feed or sterilise pets in need. We are overwhelmed by the positive response received.”
