Ruling party leads the race
The Local Government Elections in Thaba Chweu Local Municipality (TCLM) on Monday November 1 were peaceful and orderly.
The voting in TCLM went well, despite a few minor hiccups and incidents that could not stop the public from exercising their democratic right.
By Wednesday November 3, only 76% of the votes had been counted at the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) provincial branch in Mbombela. At the time of going to press, the results for TCLM were as follows:
- ANC: 58.8%
- DA: 21.9%
- EFF: 11.7%
- FF+: 3.7%.
The ruling party won 16 seats in the local government elections for TCLM. The DA gained six seats and the EFF collected three.
“We as an organisation have pledged to do better. We have pledged to make sure we rebuild and deliver quality services to our people. We thank all our volunteers, communities, and residents of TCLM. They once again trust the ANC to continue to provide services,” said Sasekani Manzini, the provincial spokesperson for the ANC.
The FF+ is back in the political game in TCLM on an official level, and gained one seat in Ward 12.
“We have grown in the province and in every single municipality. We are extremely thankful towards the public for their support and for trusting us. Our candidates will plough this trust the voters placed in the party, back into the community. It shows that the voters are ready for change,” said Landé van Wyk-Willemse, the FF+ Mpumalanga spokesperson.
The DA in TCLM was also thankful for the support they had received.
“Thank you to all the volunteers and party members for the hard work they have been doing and will continue to do. We also urge them to be consistent in the service delivery. No resident should be deprived of services,” said Buchule Putini, the DA Mpumalanga spokesperson.
