Vehicle recovered from flooded quarry is impounded for investigation

The car was recovered from a quarry in Mbombela on Saturday morning, December 11.

A surprise discovery by recreational divers last week led to the recovery of a vehicle from a quarry over the weekend.

The Ehlanzeni Police Diving Unit recovered a car from a body of water in a quarry along the Sabie/ White River road on Saturday morning, December 11.
The Blue Waves Scuba team, based in Mbombela, had being conducting diving exercises at the quarry last week when the divers came across a vehicle on the bed of the quarry.

They immediately contacted the police diving unit which headed out with Van Wettens Breakdowns to retrieve the car.
It is unclear how long the car had been in the water or to whom the car belongs.

The police diving unit and Van Wettens spent Saturday morning locating the car underwater before hitching it to a Van Wettens tow truck which managed to hoist the car.

The Ehlanzeni Police Diving Unit’s Capt Pottie Potgieter said the car has been impounded for further investigation.

“We also want to thank Van Wettens that assisted us free of charge. The vehicle recovery would not have been possible without its help and for that the team is very grateful,” said Potgieter.
