Road flooded, more rain expected

The R40 at Rocky Drift was closed briefly due to flooding. More rain and possible flooding is expected tomorrow, December 14.

A downpour resulted in the R40 near Rocky Drift flooding earlier this afternoon. The road was briefly closed.

The road has been opened for now, however, more disruptive rain is expected throughout the day tomorrow over the eastern parts of Mpumalanga, including the Lowveld.

Local, Lawrence Baird, said it took him between 15 and 20 minutes to cross the flooded section of the R40, saying he even spotted a bakkie floating in the water as he drove through.

“When we crossed the flooded section we saw the traffic was backed up all the way to eBundu Lodge. There was a massive queue”.

South African Weather Services has released a weather warning for disruptive rain over the Lowveld and areas to the north of Mbombela. It said more disruptive rain is expected tomorrow with the possibility of flooding.
