Penryn shares its excitement for Interhigh 2022

"We wish all the participants of Interhigh 2022 the very best. Thank you to Hoërskool Nelspruit for hosting the event and rest assured knowing that Penryn, one and all, will be there on Saturday February 26," said Albert Pienaar, head of Penryn College.

“It is such an honour for Penryn to be part of Interhigh 2022. We are so proud of, and very thankful for our athletes’ successes over the past couple of years, especially winning the percentage trophy three times during the past five years. We believe this is not only a testimony to our commitment to excellence, but more importantly, it underwrites our beliefs that each child is valued as a child of God and the success of a community is more important than individual success,” said Albert Pienaar, head of Penryn College.

Penryn is the only independent school in the Lowveld to participate at Interhigh. It is also the smallest school out of the seven participating schools.

Considering the above, Penryn has done exceptionally well at this event with the highlights being:

2017- Finished fifth overall as well as winning the percentage trophy
2017- Penryn won both the boys’ u/17 and boys’ u/19 relays
2020 – Finished sixth overall and won the percentage trophy again
2020 – Eusebio Chivulele won the junior victor ludorum and Zanele Chavangwane won the senior victrix ludorum

Penryn College has launched an exciting initiative aimed at opening up more international options and enriching the academic experience of all our pupils. From January 2022 Penryn College has begun with the integration of the Cambridge curriculum into its current IEB-based programme to create a dual curriculum.

In Grade Eight (2022) and Eight and Nine (2023), a new dual curriculum, informed by both IEB and Cambridge – based curriculums will encapsulate the best of both systems to provide a more exciting and enriched experience in important junior years.

From Grade 10 (2024), pupils will have the option of preparing for the Cambridge IGCSE examinations and then opting to study towards AS (Advanced Subsidiary) or A level (Advanced) examinations or continuing with the IEB to write the Independent Examination Board’s examination.

Penryn has a long proven track record of IEB educational excellence and by adding the option of the Cambridge curriculum, which has a proven global track record, we trust and believe that our pupils will be given even more opportunities to fulfil their God-given talents in our own country, the African continent and globally.
