Hazyview Shotokan Karate Dojo more than ready for the new year
The New World Shotokan Karate Roster for the Lowveld region for 2022 has been released, and the Hazyview Dojo has jumped to action to prepare for the year's challenges.
Training students from all over Hazyview, including some from Skukuza, the dojo looks forward to the new year in which more opportunities will present themselves as Covid restrictions have taken sport into consideration.
Karate events and belt gradings are not the only two karate-related occasions to which students can look forward this year, but gasshukus will also be initiated this year. Gasshuku is intensive training in which keen students stay and train together for several hours each day.

As the martial arts were originally developed as an outdoor activity, gasshuku is traditionally practised in natural surroundings. The students learn new syllabuses and reinforce their current grade level requirements, often in preparation for upcoming promotions.
“This year will be the chance for all students to embrace karate, and those who want to learn the ways of martial arts may enter this year at the dojo,” said Sensei Hugo Lusse, manager of the Hazyview Dojo.
Lusse helped head sensei Sandra van Vuuren to train students and teach them life lessons that come with this martial art.
