BURGERSFORT – Her determination to help build a crime-free province and country has earned a local grade 10 learner, Evelyn Mafane, the title of the junior provincial police commissioner in debating competitions hosted by the SAPS.

The 15-year-old learner and passionate debater from Leolo Technical High School in Praktiseer had to engage in fierce arguments against learners from other clusters and provinces on issues relating to crime to earn the title.

She won the provincial competition against more than 10 other contestants recently. On April 7, her achievements were celebrated at her school in an event that was attended by her peers. Evelyn received a trophy for winning the provincial challenge.

The young girl qualified to represent Limpopo in the national junior provincial commissioner debating competition later this year.

“I want to see crime being dealt with and for our country to be peaceful,” said the determined girl. She thanked the Tubatse SAPS management and Leolo Technical High School educators for mentoring her.
