Uplands pupils, staff and friends celebrate 94 years of values

Uplands Founders evening is a tradition that has been ongoing for the past 94 years.

Uplands recently celebrated its 94th Founders Evening with music, art and drama showcased by Uplands pupils.  The Founders Evening is a special annual event shared by Uplands pupils, parents, staff and friends of the school.

In a statement by the school, Uplands board acting chairperson Greg Dane said the annual Uplands Founders evening is a tradition that has been passed on from generation to generation for 94 years.  “We honour our founders with gratitude, acknowledge our successes of today and inspire our dreams of tomorrow,” said Dane.

The celebrations included the candle-lighting ceremony, “a revered tradition which is symbolic of the 94 years of values and traditions of Uplands, and the passing on of the light of knowledge from pupils through the grades”.

“There is a saying that ‘thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened’,” said the statement from the school.  Uplands executive head Sean Carlisle expressed his delight with the event and said that it was an overwhelming success.
