Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court postpones JJ Peters’ case to July

The accused was remanded in custody. He is accused of murdering his grandmother.

JJ Peters appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court for the fifth time on June 8. His murder case was postponed to July 6 for further investigations. He was remanded in police custody.

The provincial spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, Monica Nyuswa, said Peters is facing charges of murder, malicious damage to property and defeating the ends of justice.

Peters is accused of murdering his grandmother, Sannie Strydom Kilmister (68), on February 28. Kilmister was allegedly strangled by Peters, who had been sharing her house on a smallholding in the Cromdale area. She was found dead in her bedroom with various bruise marks on her neck and splashes of blood were found on her pillow.

“During his first appearance in court on March 2, Peters elected to conduct his own defence. In his second appearance on March 10, he changed his mind and elected to use the services of Legal Aid South Africa. The court will ask him whether he will plead guilty or not during his trial,” said Nyuswa.
