Musicians enthral audience with magical performance

The show was part of the Classical at Christie's Concert Series and was held on June 3.

The award-winning musical Charl du Plessis Trio put on a magical show for Lowvelders within the beautiful settings of Christie’s at 32 on Russell on the night of June 3.  The show that was organised by Innibos, offered an array of classical and jazz music, all with a twist. It was part of the Classical at Christie’s Concert Series and more shows are planned for the near future.

Taking to the stage with Charl du Plessis on piano, Werner Spies on stick bass and drummer Peter Auret, the artists started the evening off with a masterful rendition of a composition by Beethoven.  This was followed with Beethoven’s Für Elise which the three played with seven beats in a bar instead of the usual three beats.

The 90-strong audience was completely blown away by the performance, gasping in awe, clapping and cheering at the end of each piece.  Du Plessis engaged the crowd with his charming personality, with a few hilarious anecdotes from his career as an award-winning classical and jazz pianist.  The crowd members was so impressed with the outstanding performance, they gave the trio a standing ovation.
