Refuse collection resumes in Mbombela

Some of the services have resumed in the city after two days of protests.

The City of Mbombela (CoM) has issued notices about the disruption of services throughout the town due to the ongoing community unrest in various parts of Mbombela.

However, the CoM spokesperson, Joseph Ngala, said the Department of Waste Management Services said it will collect rubbish starting from today, July 8, and over the weekend.

“Residents can leave their refuse bags outside and they will be collected. They are busy collecting waste in Sonheuwel today and they will collect in West Acres over the weekend,” he said.

Meanwhile water supplier Silulumanzi said due to load-shedding and road blockages, residents must expect water outages in some parts of Mbombela. According to Richmond Jele, the spokesperson for Silulumanzi, some of their employees have been unable to get to work due to road blockages since the protest began.

“Therefore, due to the unexpected shortage of staff, there could be delays in response times. Emergencies can be reported using the following channels: email enquiries@silulumanzi.com; the 24-hour landline: 013 752 6839; and the WhatsApp number: 083 269 1456. We are still operating on limited maintenance staff,” he said.

He also said their customer care offices in Mbombela are now open as usual for payment and customer care activities. “Customers can still make payments conveniently on various Silulumanzi customer portals on www.silulumanzi.com or in any grocery shop,” said Jele.
