An elegant surprise for Bergvlam matrics

The destination of the dance was Umbali outside Mbombela and was a surprise for the matrics.

June 24 was a night of gorgeous gowns, glittering jewels and lots of dancing for the matrics of Hoërskool Bergvlam at their matric dance.

The theme was “An elegant surprise”.

The arrivals started at 16:00 at the school’s pavilion. Teachers Monique van Heerden and Chereze Blom announced the learners as they made their entrance, some in vintage cars and others in souped-up vehicles.

The destination for the dance was a complete surprise for the matrics, and after everyone had gathered at the school, luxury coaches from Citybug were ready to escort the learners to the venue, Umbali.

“Once all the matrics were loaded onto the buses, the parents were notified of the location by SMS,” said Bergvlam’s spokesperson, Mandy Barndar.

“The venue was decorated in elegant white and black with a touch of crystal, and the red carpet was rolled out for our guests of honour,” she said.

Hoërskool Bergvlam’s principal, Deon Visser, and his wife, Trudie, welcomed each learner at the door and presented them with welcome drinks.

“Speeches were short and to the point, as the Class of 2022 could not wait to open the dance floor. It was not empty for a moment, and even the teachers danced with the learners to an old school favourite, ‘Jerusalema’,” said Barnard.
