Coromandel community shares problems with department
The residents mentioned ongoing struggles with services and utilities, as well as dilapidating infrastructure.

The Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs’ (Cogta) portfolio committee on human settlements recently paid a visit to Coromandel Estates to meet the community regarding their concerns.
The visit was led by Gabisile Shabalala, the chairperson of the committee, on Thursday August 4.
Coromandel Estate is located on the R36 between Lydenburg and Dullstroom.
The residents said some of the challenges are the lack of sanitation and water connectivity in some of the houses, and cracks in the walls and floors. Apparently, the houses were mainly built on wetlands.

Community members also complained of raw sewage spillages that affect their well-being.
Shabalala urged the respective departments, the leadership and management of Ehlanzeni District Municipality (EDM) and Thaba Chweu Local Municipality (TCLM) to compile a joint report on this matter to be presented to the portfolio committee.
TCLM recently refurbished the sewege plant in Coromandel with funding from EDM and Cogta.
