Rubicon has hat parade at street braai
The Rubicon Street Braai is held once a month and different themes are chosen for each event.
Rubicon Retirement Village hosted its monthly street braai on Friday August 26.
The Rubicon Community Braai is held on the last Friday of every month and is an initiative that was started by the residents.
It provides an opportunity for them to socialise with neighbours, friends and family, as well as get to know new people.
“The men in the village take charge of the braaiing. Rubicon provides the facilities,” said Rubicon’s Amanda Collins. “Fedics, the catering team, provided pap, sauce and salad. Lily Care, which is the care centre at the village, arranged a theme, as they do each month. The theme was Mad Hatter’s Tea Party,” she said.
Collins added that there was also a raffle and a few lucky draws for the crowd, as well as a hat parade. The people with the most decorated hats received awards.

The winner of the hat parade was Brad van Zyl, with second place going to Maxine Vermeulen. In third place was Magriet Blom. “Our next braai will be on September 23 and there will be a live performance by Tom Jacobie. The event organiser of this street braai was Rhona Holt,” Collins said.
